Engaging with MPsThis year's CIH South East housing reception was held at the House of Commons on 2 February. Guests included the Rt Hon John Healey MP, Minister for Housing and Planning, regional members of parliaments, South East councillors and portfolio holders, and housing association chief executives.

Howard Farrand, President of the CIH, presented the winners of the 2009 South East Excellence Awards, as well as honouring the great contribution to housing made by the late Bob Lawrence.

CIH South East appreciates that it is the work of individuals within the housing sector that can make a very significant contribution to the lives of people in the region. Our awards aim to reward individual effort, recognise good practice and promote role models.

Patrick Fowler, Older Person's Services Manager at First Wessex, was the winner of the Member Excellence Award.

CIH South East also recognised the efforts of three top-achieving housing students - Anita Iles, Debbie Harvey and Jeremy Underdown.

The Housing Hero Award is to ensure that 'unsung heroes' within the housing world are rewarded for their contribution to such a vibrant and caring sector.

The 2009 CIH South East Housing Hero Award was presented to Bob Lawrence's family for his lifetime of passion and commitment to social housing. Bob sadly passed away in November 2008. His son, Jack, and daughter, Ruth, were there to collect the award.
