Housing driving the economy forward
27 May 2010, 9.30am-4.00pm
CIH London Office, Grays Inn Road

About the event

Housing is fundamental to developing sustainable communities that can contribute to wider economic growth. Enabling housing provision is essential in tackling the wider socio-economic issues including poverty, deprivation, social exclusion and worklessness. There is need to invest and strengthen neighbourhoods through regeneration and new development through locally-based initiatives including community engagement and involvement, capacity building, training, accessibility to employment and improving housing mobility.

Housing professionals within their localities need to drive these initiatives, identifying the major issues in their areas and offering bespoke packages to maximise the benefits for the local community at the same time meeting the wider social, economic and environmental factors that are crucial for sustainable communities.

This event aims to provide an essential overview into the links between housing and the economy, examining the gaps and barriers that need to be addressed and providing examples of best practice.

We will examine at a South East regional level how housing organisations are supporting and embedding employment, training and enterprise initiatives which support the economy.

This event aims to encourage debate between key stakeholders and stimulate further action which will benefit local communities and the wider economy.

It will encourage the debate between key stakeholders and stimulate further action by the agencies which will benefit the local and wider economy.
