Learn about housing - a taste of things to comeAugust 2009 saw the launch of CIH Level 2 Certificate in Housing taster sessions in Kent. These free tasters are part of a new training partnership between West Kent College, Real Strategies Community interest Company, West Kent Consulting and local housing providers - Housing and Communities Training.

The partnership is developing reasonably-priced programmes in Surrey, Sussex and Kent. These will help organisations and residents to gain the skills, experience and qualifications to deliver excellent housing services. For some participants, the course fee is refunded.

Over 30 staff and residents from West Kent and Hyde Housing, Maidstone Housing Trust and Russet Homes took part in the tasters which included a lettings case study and 'credit crunch and housing' debate. The sessions were a resounding success - participants described them as 'interactive and enjoyable' rating them, on average, at 8/10. Twenty nine of those involved progressed to October's Level 2 course.

In the longer term, the partnership plans to deliver a wider range of housing and community courses including the Level 3 Certificate in Housing, Chartered Institute of Building Maintenance and Community Action in Housing.
