Representing the South East on councilAlison Breese is our nominated South East representative on the CIH national council. Here she explains her role and that of the national council. 'The council meets four times a year across the country. Each member elects to sit on either the Policy and Practice Board or the Professional and Development Board. Chairs and officers on council sit on the Management Board, and there is also an International Board.'

CIH also has devolved boards reporting to council for Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. 'And we have a representative from the Asian Pacific region who attends our meetings.'

Council members are all volunteers and are elected by the corporate membership, which includes Fellows. Our 32 council members are all CIH trustees, responsible for the organisation's long-term wellbeing.

Alison opted to sit on the council's Policy and Practice Board. 'To maintain continuity and sharing information, I also chair the South East Policy Group and attend the occasional policy update at CIH in Coventry. And I get invited to attend policy events on behalf of the CIH.'

As a membership body, it's important that the Council has good links with its membership through the regionals and devolved boards. 'Which means we need you to take an active interest in the CIH at a local level - attending events or becoming a member of the local CIH regional committee. Or you can get involved nationally by voting for your council representatives so we can represent you more effectively.'
