Supporting capacity building in South Africa

Soon after our successful conference in Brighton in March 2008, the South East region agreed to support the Southern African Housing Foundation with a £5,000 donation to translate a self-build DVD into the eight ethnic southern African languages.
We felt that this fitted with the Chartered Institute of Housing's overall aim of uniting the global housing community. Bob Keats, our South East region's Treasurer, attended the Southern African Housing Foundation conference in Cape Town in October - he presented a paper on the contribution of a professional housing association to capacity building in South Africa.
A reception was held at the end of the second day of the conference to thank all the contributors to the DVD which, by then, had gone to over 1,000 communities in southern Africa. Here, Bob was presented with a framed copy of the DVD in recognition of the contribution from the South East region.
