Housing education courses in the South East There are two educational establishments in the South East running CIH courses at present - Southampton Solent University and West Kent College (as part of the Housing & Communities Training Partnership, South East). There is also a specialist CIH-accredited development and regeneration course run by Chichester-based housing consultants, Adams Integra. Other options are distance-learning courses, centres in the London region and in-house arrangements.

Southampton Solent University offers a Diploma in Housing which starts in October. This course has a practical and contextual emphasis, and includes collaborative working with social care students. The Diploma can be topped up to an honours degree.

Housing & Communities Training Partnership, South East (West Kent College, Real Strategies CIC and West Kent Housing Association) offers CIH Level 2 courses from employer venues in Kent, Surrey and Sussex, starting this October. These are free to certain categories of learners. You can try A Taste of Level 2 - a free, lively staff and resident two-hour taster session conducted on request.

Adams Integra Housing Consultants offers a CIH Level 3 Housing Development and Regeneration Certificate. This is a one-year blended learning course involving monthly workshops and distance learning supported by mentors.

National providers: CIH and the Centre for Housing & Support
Both CIH and the Centre for Housing & Support (CHS) offer distance-learning and blended-learning courses, as well as running courses at central venues including London. Both can also work with organisations to provide courses in-house or at a local venue.

Blended learning is a mixture of classroom and computer-based learning. Distance learning includes study material, a residential induction course and online or telephone support.

CIH offers Level 2, 3 and 4 courses, its Professional Diploma and an MSc Housing. Joint maintenance qualifications are offered with the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), Levels 2, 3 and 4. The closing date for the next intake is 6 November 2009.

CHS offers Level 2 and 3 housing courses and a Foundation Degree in Housing and Support which incorporates the Level 4 Certificate and Diploma. It also offers City & Guilds qualifications in Mental Health and Assistive Technology, and Modern and Advanced Apprenticeships in Housing.

The Level 2 Certificate - the introductory qualification - is not available on a distance-learning basis.
