Housing education courses in the South East

There are currently two education centres in the South East region offering Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) housing qualifications - Mid-Kent College and Southampton Solent University. Other options are the CIH distance learning courses and centres in the London region.
Mid-Kent College is continuing to offer its CIH Level 3 and 4 courses, which are run on a day release basis at its centre in Chatham and are also held at company premises. Level 4 is a Higher National Certificate course which is also offered on a blended-learning basis, comprising a mixture of distance learning, online support and college attendance one or two days a month. All college-based courses start in September 2008. Company-based courses are by arrangement.
Southampton Solent University is offering a Diploma in Housing and a BA (Hons)/Graduate Diploma in Housing on a part-time basis. The Diploma starts in October 2008 and has a strong emphasis on practically understanding the operational context of housing. The BA/graduate diploma offers a degree course for candidates topping up a Diploma of Higher Education in Housing Studies and a Graduate Diploma for those who already have a degree. Part of a wider programme, the course includes collaborative working with social care students.
CIH Distance Learning offers Level 3 and 4 courses, and an MSc in Housing and Professional Diploma in Higher Education. Students are sent study material, attend a residential induction course and are linked to a regional centre which provides telephone support. The closing date for the next intake is 5 September 2008.
The degree and graduate/professional diploma courses satisfy both the academic and practical requirements for CIH Corporate Membership, including APEX.
