You may be aware that the ODPM has recently issued a consultation paper: "Housing and Planning in the Regions". The paper sets out the Government's proposals to merge planning bodies and housing boards in the regions, which will make the Regional Assemblies responsible for the work currently undertaken by Regional Housing Boards, in addition to their role as Regional Planning Bodies. It also seeks comments on the establishment of a national unit to support regions with issues such as methodologies and housing numbers to underpin the housing and planning strategies.

The deadline for comments on this paper is 30 November 2004.
