Our 2009 CIH South East annual conference, Future Proofing the South East, is set for 3-5 March, again at the Hilton Brighton Metropole. It is the place for a reliable review of regional economic trends, policy analysis and delivery solutions.

National election for CIH Council
The election to fill vacancies for national representatives on the CIH's 32-member governing Council will be held in February. Two members from the South East region - Steve Benson and Alison Breese - sit on the Council at the moment.

Our policy and practice update
Sarah Davis, CIH Senior Policy Officer, gives an update of how the Government is proposing that the regional policy agenda and investment is taken forward. She also provides further updates on the way CIH is responding to ensure that housing is sufficiently recognised within the wider economic agenda.
We are planning a return visit to Vienna from 5-9 May 2009 with help from Wolfgang Förster, Head of Research at the Department of the Vienna Land Procurement and Urban Renewal Fund, who will be visiting our regional conference in Brighton in March.

We are offering one or two CIH South East students the opportunity to win a free place on our housing study trip to Vienna, which will be from 5-9 May 2009.
A report on our CIH South East study trip to Copenhagen and Malmö, from 30 September to 5 October 2008. The purpose of the trip was to explore the developments at the cutting edge of innovation and sustainability.
Supporting capacity building in South Africa
Soon after our successful conference in Brighton in March 2008, the South East region agreed to support the Southern African Housing Foundation with a £5,000 donation to translate a self-build DVD into the eight ethnic southern African languages.
